Gilderoy Jack Scamp (7 June 1812 – 12 June 1893) was King of the Romani and a bare-knuckle boxer.[1] . He succeeded his father upon his abdication in the early 1840s. He was a friend of Mayer Amschel de Rothschild[citation needed] and had encounters with the police.[vague][2]
Early life[edit]
Scamp was born on the 14th of june 1812 to Samson Scamp and Celia Lee in Birchington, Kent. His mother was of jewish ancestry.
Personal life[edit]
Scamp was married to Katherine "Kitty" Barton and had 10 children.[3]
Scamp passed away at age 81 from bronchitis in 1893 and was buried in Hawkinge churchyard, overlooking folkestone.[4]
